The purpose of this blog is for students and staff at Northwest High School to discuss books, magazines, websites and anything else related to reading and technology.
Monica Steers/Mr.Dennis/Bell 1 1.The authors tone of this picture is, snobby , because its showing that you have to be able to read and write to be allowed in our contry 2.The artists purpose of this photo is , to show people tthat you should be able to read and write to be apart of our country ,and be equal. 3.The authors persepective on this photo is, probably to show that they believe that you should be able to read and write to be part of this country and to be treated the same.
Bethany McMullin/Mrs.Neville/Bell:1 1. The tone of this image is rude because they said that if you're American, you have to be able to read and write. 2. The purpose of this image is to show people that you had to be able to read and write to be equal in this country. 3. The authors perspective is this image is to show that if you wanted to be equal, you had to be able to read and write.
Jisaiah Jordan/Neville/Bell:1 1.)The tone is very degrading and stereotypical because they were giving the immigrants a hard time at trying to start a new life. 2.)The authors purpose of this photo is to show that you have to know how to read and write to be an american or to come to america. 3.)The authors perspective on the photo is logically about beleiving in literacy test for immigrants.
Minh Nguyen/Mrs. Neville/Bell 3 1) The tone is degrading and hopeless. This is shown by the immigrants being blocked from entering "The Land of the Free" by the "wall" of the literacy test. 2) The author's purpose is to inform the reader that if Congressman Burnett was elected, then having to know how to read and write in English would be required for new immigrants. This is supported by the text at the bottom, "The Americanese Wall, As Congressman Burnett Would Build It." 3) The author's perspective is to to show that under Congresssman Burnett, immigrants will have to be able to pass the literacy test to be an American.
Jenna Behrmann/ Mrs. Dailey/ Bell 5 1/ The tone of this picture is hopeless and sad. These immigrants have to take this nearly impossible literacy test. 2. The artist's purpose is to illustrate how unfairly the immigrants are treated and how hard it is to become an American citizen. 3. The authors perspective is that this is extremely unfair to immigrants and that freedom actually does have to be earned.
Sarah Jones/ Dailey/ bell 5 1. The tone of this picture is sad, pitiful, and wrong, this picture is showing that in order to get into our "free" country, you have to be able to read and write, which is really hard for some immigrants. 2. The artist's purpose is to inform people some of the hardships immigrants had to face when coming to America. 3. The suthor's perspective is that it's not fair how that immigrants were treated when all they were looking for was a second chance and a new life.
Bergquist justin A./Dailey/bell 5 1) The tone of this photo is one of racist segregation. This is shown in that the people at the base of the wall are not allowed entry to the "Land of the Free" because of the wall that is a literacy test. 2)The authors purpose was to show the stupid nature of a literacy test. This is shown in that the people at the base of the wall must clime a rediculisly high obstical in order to enter the land of the free 3)The authors perspective is one of thinking that this practice is not right. I think this because of the way that this point is shown in a stupid way.
Jasmine Duong/ McMullin/ Bell 1 1) The tone of this photo is degrading because, its showing that America gave immigrants a hard time. 2) The artist's purpose was to explain that immigrants had to pass a literacy to come into America. This was the purpose because, the focal point of the picture is a giant wall that says "Literacy Test". 3) Based on the photo, i can infer that the authors perspective was that the test was an obstacle immigrants had to pass to come into America.

1. I think the tone is hopelessness. I think this because the picture is saying if you can't read or write go back.
2. The purpose is to show how we treat immigrants. The cartoon has a big wall with guns and immigrants at the front.
3. The authors prospective is that americans treat immigrants awful.
